Hello, welcome to Plain Fox.
Disclaimer: This post has no spoilers. It’s a quick and simple review, to commemorate this release date. If you would like a more detailed and in-depth review, please let me know.
I received an ARC of this book a few days ago, to review. Kat French is a new author to me, but I did recognize the name, because one of her books is in my TBR list already. I’m scheduled to go to RARE18 London, and Kat French (AKA Kitty French) will be there.
By chance I stumbled on a Facebook post from her, in the RARE18 London page, with her promotion of another book of hers, and I purchased it and it was sitting in my TBR RARE18 List, waiting for me to read it. So, when I received this ARC I very happy and excited to start my RARE18 London TBR list.
Three British best-friends, Winnie, Stella and Frankie, spontaneously find themselves the new owners of a gorgeous B&B on a remote Greek island, Villa Valentina. It’s the perfect escape from their reality and problems, but the sun, sand and a secret gin cellar, will most likely wash it away.
A brooding neighbour, a donkey, a famous Rock Band and an ex-husband? will rattle this B&B’s walls, can the three friends take it?
Love, sun and gin – the perfect summer love recipe.
Kindle: 22nd June Paperback: 13th July
This book was such a sweet funny read. I’m a person who enjoys covers, and I thought this cover was gorgeous and very summery. This book sold me summer and it gave me summer. It made me feel like travelling to Greece and exploring the hidden places that I might find.
Truthfully, I was expecting a very sickly-sweet romance, but what I got was a very female empowering and liberating sweet romance. The three best-friends have different lives with different problems and priorities, and this book has shown how each will react to life and all that it entails and how each will reach, fight and find love.
Because of the ‘Titanic’ references, I became scared that a happy ending wouldn’t be had, and the song “My Heart Will Go On” and “I Will Always Love You” was on stand by in my mind to start playing. I loved these ‘Titanic’ vibes, it made me very happy, and it made cross references the two, and it just added to the romantic feel of the novel.
There are other pop culture references, it made this book feel very accessible and new, and it helped make the character’s personality shine through the pages for me.
I wish I wish I could have seen more of Stella and Frankie, their point of views and their romances. I’m very happy and satisfied with how their stories developed and ended, but I just wish there was a bit more of them.
A big thank you to Avon Books UK (@AvonBooksUK ), and Netgalley for allowing me to read a Arc of this book.
